Conversion of a Grade II listed building to create a 5 bedroom family home retaining original features and the addition of new modern interventions. Originally built as the servants quarters and nursery to Newton Hall, the West Wing had been divided into flats at first floor and unoccupied at ground floor. Pod were commissioned to reconfigure the disparate elements to create a one off family home. Working closely with Northumberland County Council's Conservation Officer, a sensitive design approach helped retain existing features and character. Creating a new “front” to the house was a key challenge with the new drive approaching what was historically the rear of the main house. A new front door and large modern glazed garden room animate the façade and provide aspect over the gardens and woodland. This overtly modern intervention was welcomed by the council and has helped create a unique home.
