Forth Yards, Newcastle

Client: Network Rail

Location: Newcastle

A prominent brownfield development site on the western edge of Newcastle Central Station, Pod have been instructed to design a mixed use scheme including apartments, town houses, offices, bars, restaurants, employment and station parking. The site bound by the River Tyne, East Coast Railway line and Redheugh Bridge is key to unlocking future development sites along the Tyne by providing new pedestrian and vehicular linkages.

The design proposes fingers of development cascading down to the river, framing views of the Tyne and allowing all apartments to benefit from a south facing terrace and river views. The proposed car park and form of the apartments are designed to shield residential development and public space from rail and road noise, providing respite and tranquillity within the centre of the city. The topography allows parking to be folded under a wide pedestrian avenue creating a car free environment.
