Callerton Park, Newcastle

Client: Consortia

Location: Newcastle

Callerton Park represents a key neighbourhood growth area for Newcastle City Council, seeking to bring forward economic and housing growth over the next 15 year plan period. The proposed masterplan makes provision for 3,000 new homes, in addition to new primary schools and smaller areas of commercial and retail provision. The masterplan also incorporates improved connectivity to surrounding settlements with a new pedestrian bridge spanning the A69, connecting Walbottle to Lower Callerton Village.

Pod were initially engaged to prepare a concept masterplan and visioning document suitable to achieve the allocation of the development site, with the aspiration to provide for a Lower, Middle and Upper Callerton ‘Village’, with each area responding to individual development constraints and site context. Pod subsequently prepared a design code adopted by the local authority, allowing a number of smaller detailed, hybrid and outline applications to be delivered as part of an agreed holistic masterplan framework.
