Murton forms a key strategic allocation of the emerging North Tyneside Local Plan providing approximately 3000 dwellings in addition to a potential new metro station and focused commercial hub. Pod were initially instructed by the development consortia to provide promotional and visioning material and to ensure masterplan proposals were progressed with key stakeholders including North Tyneside Council and ATLAS (The Advisory Team for Large Applications).

The masterplan proposes to link new distinct development cells to the surrounding neighbourhoods of West Monkseaton, New York and Shiremoor, whilst maintaining the integrity of Murton Village. A large buffer gives a visual separation and provides a key element of landscape infrastructure. A detailed and considered edge study undertaken at consultation stage has ensured the successful integration of existing residential areas in close proximity to development boundaries by incorporating positive outward aspect and green spaces.
